Traveling through the Bahamas

 Wow,

Almost a month has gone by since my last update.

We left Grand Cay, and sailed/motored to Allan Cay. The anchorage was great and interesting.

The first fun story of this location is... The waring for this location was - Bull Sharks like this area...

One of the things we do after putting our anchor down, is diving on the anchor to verify it is set correctly.

Well.... It was my fastest dive ever!

I jumped in, and out of the water at the same speed... The reason.. As I hit the water, a 6-7 foot Bull shark was under me.

So we put the dinghy in the water and I visually checked the anchor.

We left Allan Cay and sailed  / motored to Green Turtle Cay, and took a mooring ball on the south side of the island.

It is a very narrow and shallow entrance, but a great location to stay.

We took a golf cart, traveled the island, and did some grocery shopping.

We also went snorkeling around Fiddle Cay and Crab Cay.

It was a great snorkeling day, buy also the wettest ride EVER. The wind was blowing on our face on the way back, and the wave were 2-4 feet. it was wet but fun ride.

After a few days in Green Turtle we move a little north to Nunjack or Manjack cay to wait to , Frank and their kids to come from Florida on their boat. It was an "interesting" ride. We had strong winds and rain hitting us on our was, and our Code 0 sail start to un-furl at the top. Hani and I jumped to action, and in strong winds and blinding rain, we dropped the sail and pulled it into the boat without damaging it. Or so we hopped...

We anchored first for a few night at Manjack Beach and then moved to the north side to Manjack Rock.

What a place it is!! We walked the beaches, swam with stingrays and sharks, and snorkeled the reefs around. It was amazing.

Joanna and Frank joined us and we all had great time.

We left Manjack and traveled to Hope Town. We found no available mooring balls inside, so we anchored just under the light house for three days.

We dinghy to town, visited the shoppes, and climbed the light house. It was a nice and relaxing time.

From there we decide to move south to Eleuthera.

We waited for the right weather window, and we moved from Hope Town to Lynyard Cay, and early in the morning left for Egg Island.

It was a just under 12 hours ride, most of it sailing and even seeing over 7 kts a few times. Also we found that we have an issue with our starboard bilge pump and our port engine circulating pump... It is a boat...

But we got safe and sound to Egg Island, entered through the reef and anchored in clear send and beautiful water for 2 days of swimming snorkeling and walking the beach.

We moved a few miles to Royal Island and from there to Russell Island in Spanish Wells, were we are now.

We fixed the issue with the bilge and now waiting for a mechanic to fix the port engine.

In the meantime we swim with manatees, stroll the town and island, had the Seder done and enjoying our time here.

  1. It is so good to see your pictures and your smiling faces! Last time we were in Spanish Wells was May 2012. The marina you are at wasn't there; just a big inlet we anchored in with one old homestead. How long are you staying and where will you be for the hurricane season? Sending love and hugs!
